Premier Inn, Temple Mead – reclad

Bristol

Tower Eight placed the contract with Carter Lauren, on behalf of Whitbread.

The contract was to re-clad an occupied eight-storey hotel, next to a busy highway. With hotel entrance and restaurant on the ground floor, storage was very restricted.

CARTER LAUREN

Their approach to the scheme was extremely proactive. The early exchanges with the design team were swift and supportive providing sequential approval meeting all planned dates effectively. Their installation team were responsive and committed, ably supported by regularly visiting management. The quality standards were found to be high and consistent.

Challenges

The town centre location offered very limited space for access, offloading and storage.

The existing cladding had to be removed from site as soon as possible.

The re-clad was carried out in mid-winter, which was another challenge.

The hotel was open for business throughout the re-clad.

Solutions

Scaffolding and MEWPs were used to access various parts of the building. Further to relevant permissions, scissor lifts were located on the pavement on the main street in front of the hotel.

Just-in-time deliveries were arranged due to the limited storage area, maintaining close co-ordination with hotel and restaurant management.

Sequencing was co-ordinated so that installers only worked outside unoccupied hotel rooms.

Fire tests on both existing and proposed cladding were carried out at the BRE Test Centre.

A2O completed on programe, developing a good working relationship with Carter Lauren.
